INSPIRATION
The story behind Bouncin4checks is all about my wonderful mother.
The inspiration behind bouncin4checks comes from my story intertwined with one of my mother’s past experiences. As a single woman raising 4 children, my mother was forced to provide for my siblings and I on a fixed income. My father married and got my mother pregnant at a young age, something my mother admits that neither of them were ready for at the time. My father was in his rolling stone days and the family came second early on. Although my father did provide for us before they split, emotionally he had checked out on us as children. Nevertheless, my mother wrote a check that bounced to a grocery store named Nt’s General store on two different occasions. None of the checks for over 100 dollars. Both were considered Misdemeanor chargers, but after they didn’t receive the funds from the Bounced checks, they reported it to the Cobb County Police Department. A warrant was issued for my mother’s arrest during a time when we needed her the most.
The Cobb County Police went to Old Glory apartments to arrest her a couple days out of the hospital in 1984 the year I was born. My mother was kept in a holding cell, no finger prints, or mug shots were taken at that time. My Grandmother the late Sarah Pearl came to bond my mother out. Not having the funds to bail my mother out of Cobb County Jail, she had to put the house up to meet the bond amount. My mother, a very noble women had to put her freedom in jeopardy for her family to eat.
When my mother was asked if she’d do it again, she replied “That she made up in her mind during her first pregnancy that nothing was more important than raising her children”. Inspired by this I made up in my mind as a child that I would go to school and work hard to be successful academically and athletically. The same inspiration helped me to obtain a college basketball scholarship, be presented with 5 college degrees, a career as high school teacher/Coach, and the founder of Bounicin4checks LLC. I made up in my mind as a young student athlete that I would be Bouncin4checks and not bouncing checks.
I Thank God for the struggle and my mother
